TORONTO - A majority of residents of Toronto have left the city in anticipation of the chaos that is likely to prevail during the Group of Twenty (G-20) Summit.
Media reports said most are planning to stay out of town between June 25 and June 28, as political leaders head into Toronto for the summit.
Law enforcement authorities have erected fences near some of the city’s densest residential zones and residents have been informed about mandatory business and road closures.
Officials are bracing themselves for the expected round of protests, putting in place security clampdowns throughout the city.
Tourism firms are offering attractive discounts for the June 26-27 weekend. One Candadian daily said a special “G-20 Summit Sale” has been activated to attract customers.
June is an ideal time to take a vacation because of the many great vacation deals available.
Government and tourism officials have warned that they expect the Pearson International Airport to be among the busiest and most secure spots in the run-up to the summit.
