Holbrooke tells Pak to tighten security along Afghan border

ISLAMABAD - President Obama’s Special Envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke has asked Islamabad to tighten security along the Afghan border in order to check militants from hopping between both nations.

Holbrooke called on Pakistan Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and expressed his concerns over the security scenario along the Afghanistan border.

A statement issued by the Inter Services Public Relations said that Holbrooke also discussed issues of mutual interest, including the imposition of stricter security measures on the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan to speed up the operation against the local Taliban, during the meeting.

According to The Daily Times, Holbrooke also apprised General Kayani with the reasons behind President Barack Obama’s decision to remove General Stanley McChrystal and appoint CENTCOM chief General David Petraeus as the new US commander in Afghanistan. (ANI)
