NEW YORK (GaeaTimes.com)- The nurse Edith Shain whose photo immortalized her after being published in Life magazine several decades back where she was seen in a lip lock with a US sailor, is no more. She was kissed by a sailor whose identity is not known, on August 14 1945. However, she did not know the sailor. The day marked the occasion of the USA’s victory over the Japanese forces in the Second World War. The image was photographed by no other than Alfred Eisenstaedt a famous photographer. It became iconic after getting published in Life and now it is considered a part of US history. The news of her death was confirmed by her family. The lady was 91 when she died in her home.

Edith Shain who passed away on Sunday is survived by three sons. They have said that their mother was patriotic and was involved with activities related to taking care of the World War II veterans. The sailor kissed her spontaneously and the photographer also shot it beautifully. She did not resist the sailor as she was also proud of the win of her nation and knew the sailors also fight for the victory for years.

Edith Shain used to work as a nurse when the kissing episode took place. Apart from that she also worked as a kindergarten teacher and also as a public access cable television producer. She was loved by the War veterans and in a number of memorial events she was felicitated. The family is mourning the loss of her life.
