Writer of Palin editorial out of job
ANCHORAGE, Alaska — An editor in Sarah Palin’s hometown has split from the local newspaper just weeks after he wrote an inflammatory piece about the former governor and her new neighbor, an author who is writing a book about her.
Tom Mitchell says his departure from the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman in Wasilla has nothing to do with the May 29 editorial on Palin’s tall new fence. Palin, the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, has said the fence was erected to prevent author Joe McGinniss from peering into her family’s home.
Mitchell’s unsigned editorial noted that McGinniss might be reminded about an Alaska law that “allows the use of deadly force in protection of life and property.”
Frontiersman publisher Kari Sleight says Mitchell’s “separation” from the newspaper is unrelated to the editorial, which triggered an onslaught of comments.
