Cops: Man kills baby in standoff with NY troopers
BLOSSVALE, N.Y. — A man fatally shot a 3-month-old child in front of troopers during a standoff outside an upstate New York home Tuesday morning, then was shot and wounded by officers, state police said.
The man was outside the home in Blossvale, east of Syracuse and about 200 miles northwest of New York City, when troopers arrived after getting a 911 call around 9:30 a.m. about a domestic dispute, police said.
Troopers shot the man after he used a shotgun on the baby and opened fire on officers, authorities said. He survived and was flown to a hospital, and the baby was pronounced dead at a hospital.
There was no immediate explanation for the man’s actions. The names and relationships of the people involved haven’t been released, but troopers said a total of three children were at the home, all younger than 5.
No other injuries were reported.
There was no information about how many shots were fired or who made the initial 911 call, which authorities said came from outside the house.
