LONDON - A handheld laser that is being compared to Jedi’s Star Wars lightsaber and is lethal enough to instantly blind or “set fire to skin and other body parts” is being sold online.
The beam from the Spyder III Pro Arctic model is nearly 1,000 times stronger than sunlight on the skin with its makers labelling it “the most dangerous laser ever created”.
Trading standards chiefs are “seriously concerned” about the device’s sale with even its Hong Kong-based manufacturer, Wicked Lasers, admitting, “a split-second laser light in a plane cockpit (…) can be disastrous”.
Laser safety experts have also slammed the sale of such devices on the web.
“Under no circumastances should they be on sale on the internet,” Sky News quoted John Colton, director of Lucid Optical Services, as saying. (ANI)
