MSNBC names Lawrence O’Donnell to join prime time
NEW YORK — After many years on MSNBC’s bench, the cable network is adding Lawrence O’Donnell to the starting lineup.
MSNBC said Tuesday that O’Donnell will develop a show for the 10 p.m. ET hour. The network had been content to air reruns of Keith Olbermann’s show from two hours earlier in that slot.
O’Donnell came to the network through a familiar route. He once worked for U.S. Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan of New York, for whom the late Tim Russert of NBC News had also worked.
O’Donnell has been with the network as a political analyst since it started 14 years ago.
He also was a writer for the NBC show “The West Wing.” The network hasn’t set a date for his new show to start.
