Frontier commits $310M to W.Va. improvements
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Frontier Communications Corp. is committing $310 million toward broadband deployment, service quality improvements and other capital expenditures in West Virginia.
Gov. Joe Manchin announced the plan at a news conference Tuesday at the state Capitol in Charleston.
Manchin says $48 million of the commitment will specifically go toward broadband deployment by the end of 2013.
The state Public Service Commission last month approved Verizon’s sale of its West Virginia landline accounts to Frontier.
Critics had questioned whether Stamford, Conn.-based Frontier had the financial resources to correct service issues with Verizon’s telephone lines in West Virginia.
A Communications Workers of America official says he’s pleased with Frontier’s latest commitment.
