Ex-Kyrgyztan president’s son seeks asylum in UK after 200 m pound swindle

LONDON - The son of a former president of Kyrgyzstan, who has been accused of financial embezzlement to the tune of over 200 million pounds, has sought asylum in Britain.
Runaway “Prince” Maksim Bakiyev, 33, landed at a small airport in a private jet and asked for asylum, The Sun reports.
He bolted from Kyrgyzstan after his father was ousted as leader and violence broke out among rival groups.
His country was on the brink of collapse last night amid claims that thousands had died in “ethnic cleansing”.
Playboy Bakiyev disappeared while supposedly on a visit to America as officials in his homeland accused him of personally stealing 20 million pounds.
He and his cronies are also alleged to have embezzled another 180 million pounds to play on foreign stock markets.
He had been known as “Prince” because he was expected to succeed his father Kurmanbek, now in exile.
Bakiyev was missing for two months until he flew into Farnborough Airport, Hants, and was met by officials from the UK Border Agency.
He had been posted as wanted by Interpol’s HQ in France.
A Whitehall source said: “It may take some time before his position is fully clarified.” (ANI)
