UNDP rings alarm bells for Pak, no water from glaciers after 2060

ISLAMABAD - A catastrophe is awaiting Pakistan fifty years from now as it would not get any water from glaciers after 2060, a report of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) report has warned.
According to it, Pakistan is on the verge of a massive water scarcity, as subsequent government’s have failed to address the issue and implement programmes for the judicious use of water.
“Glaciers melting are an alarming sign and there would be no water from glaciers after 2060, so there is a dire need of taking active steps to take the challenge,” The News quoted Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) chairman, as saying.
“Unless we want to avoid war on waters in future, we must preserve water for the coming generations,” he added, while stressing on the urgent need of initiating countrywide programme for rainwater harvesting. (ANI)
