KABUL - In the wake of the recent peace ‘jirga’, the United Nations (UN) would be reviewing its Afghan terror black list when a special committee visits the country later this month, a top UN official has said.

The special UN committee is likely to remove names of some of the militants from the black list, as a 16-point resolution passed after the conclusion of the Kabul peace jirga called for their removal.

“The review is due by the end of the month,” UN secretary-general’s special representative to Afghanistan, Staffan de Mistura told media persons here.

“Updating means taking on or taking off, based on additional new information. Some of the people in the list may not be alive any more. The list may be completely outdated … Now it’s the right time,” de Mistura added.

He, however, clarified that the UN would not ‘prejudge’ the decisions taken by the special committee.

“We are not going, of course, to prejudge the conclusions of this group … but the fact that this is taking place so soon after the peace jirga and so soon after the appeal to look seriously at this list, is a sign of pro-activity,” de Mistura said. (ANI)
