KARAIKUDI - Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Sunday said the Centre would soon introduce the Communal Violence Prevention Bill.

Chidambaram said the new Bill aimed at preventing violence in the name of caste and religion.

Addressing a gathering after unveiling Dr. B R Ambedkar statue here, Chidambaram said the parliamentary standing committee has suggested a few amendments to the Bill, and the Home Ministry is studying those suggestions and the draft bill would be ready soon.

Chidambaram further said that Congress president Sonia Gandhi had suggested to make the law tougher for those instigating caste and communal violence.

Chidambaram expressed anguish over continuation of caste and communal violence even after several decades of Independence.

He said caste and communal violence had no place in the land where great leaders like Kamaraj, Annadurai, and Periyar lived.

Chidambaram informed that the Bill would help security agencies to take stringent action against those instigating and spreading communal violence. (ANI)
