Kolkata STF seizes fake currency worth millions

KOLKATA - The Special Task Force (STF) of the Kolkata police seized counterfeit notes with a face value of Rs 4.71 million after busting a fake currency racket.

The STF arrested four people namely Jaffar Ali, Naushad, Kumar Gautam and Upendra Chowdhary, in connection with the case.

Of the four accused, two belong to Bihar, while the rest hail from the neighbouring Nepal.

“Four people were arrested in connection to the case from six Chowringhee lane in Kolkata. Fake notes worth Rs. 4.71 million were recovered from the arrested individuals,” said Kolkata STF Additional Commissioner Rajiv Kumar.One of the accused, Upendra Chowdhary is a proclaimed offender and is an operative in the fake currency business from Nepal. Another accused, Kumar Gautam also hails from Nepal,” he added.

The police team zeroed in on the gang and arrested them from Kolkata’s prime neighbourhood Chowringhee Lane. (ANI)
