LONDON - The baker of Britain’s most expensive bread - priced at 21 pounds a loaf - insists the product is ‘a work of art’.
Tom Herbert, who sells over 100 a week at his four bakeries, boasts of a high-profile customer base with celebs such as Liz Hurley, artist Damien Hirst and actor Keith Allen, being regulars at his stores.
His slice is nearly ten times the price of the average supermarket slice and he defends the cost because he uses “the most expensive ingredients”.
Tom, 33, mixes Somerset spelt flour, Cotswolds spring water, Cornish sea salt and raises it with a secret sourdough recipe taught to him by his dad.
It takes two days to hand make each 2kg “Shepherd” loaf.
“It’s a work of art. It may seem horrifically overpriced but you taste the difference. It’s meant to be the ultimate bread,” The Sun quoted Tom, as saying. (ANI)
