ISTANBUL - Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Tuesday said that India’s concerns about the safety and security of his country’s nuclear assets were unwarranted.

Talking to ANI on the sidelines of the CICA-Asia Summit being held here, Qureshi said: “The nuclear security summit that took place in washington gave a very clear pronouncement on the security of Pakistani assets. The world is comfortable with them and, we have a very well developed three-tier security structure.”

In the recent past, the US, other Western countries and India have repeatedly expressed concern about the safety of Pakistan’s nuclear assets.

Recently, Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, however, has maintained that his country’s nuclear program is mainly defensive and for peaceful purposes.

“The country’s democratic government is fully committed to ensuring nuclear security,” he said, adding that Pakistan, as a nuclear weapon state, attaches the highest importance to the security of nuclear materials and facilities.” By Naveen Kapoor (ANI)
