Pak has no objection to better Indo-US ties : FO

ISLAMABAD - Welcoming the first ever-strategic dialogue between India and the United States, Pakistan has expressed the hope that the deliberation would have a positive impact on the region, saying it has no objection over better ties between New Delhi and Washington.
Addressing a briefing here, Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit said Islamabad hoped that the Indo-US talks would have no negative effect on its relationship with Washington.
“During the Pak-US strategic dialogue, we tried to expand our relations beyond terrorism and security. As regards the Indo-US strategic dialogue, we have no objection over their bilateral relations,” The Daily Times quoted Basit, as saying.
“Washington and Delhi’s relations should have positive effects on the region,” he added.
Basit also expressed the hope that the Indo-US strategic dialogue, which will be held today (Thursday, June 3) would help improve relationship between the two South Asian neighbours and pave the way for the resolution of all long pending disputes.
During the high-level talks, India’s concerns is likely to focus on growing US ties with its arch-rival Pakistan, a key player in the US-led war in Afghanistan, while US officials will likely press for more progress in opening India’s huge market to US companies in the energy, retail and education sectors.
