Iran says UN watchdog misinterpreted Tehran tests
TEHRAN, Iran — Iran’s atomic energy chief says the U.N. nuclear watchdog misunderstood the nature of the experiments at a Tehran laboratory mentioned in its latest report.
The report added to the West’s concerns about Iranian nuclear ambitions.
Ali Akbar Salehi says the International Atomic Energy Agency’s report made a “misinterpretation” in a reference about pyroprocessing — a procedure that can be used to purify uranium metal used in nuclear warheads.
Salehi says the Tehran lab experiments deal with uranium production, not pyroprocessing. His remarks were carried on Thursday by the semiofficial Isna news agency.
Iranian’s envoy to the IAEA headquarters in Vienna, Austria, has already criticized the report.
