LONDON - An unfortunate owner of a Volkswagen was forced to pay 150 pounds as fine after police commandeered the vehicle for ’safe-keeping’ fearing it would get stolen since one its windows were down.

West Yorkshire resident Marcus Morris had parked his car at a busy city center where he had a job interview, the window of the car had accidentally been left down. He returned after half an hour to find it gone.

When he contacted West Yorkshire Police to report the car he presumed was stolen, they told him that they removed the car to prevent such a robbery.

Morris was handed a bill of 150 pounds the next day when he went to retrieve his car.

The amount has burned a hole in unemployed Morris’s pocket and he has questioned the police’s action, which he thinks was absolutely uncalled for.

“So what if I had left my window open? If anything had been taken then it’d have been my own fault,” Morris said.

“I’m not working at the moment and that’s a lot of money for me. t’s money I don’t think I should have had to pay,” he added.

The West Yorkshire Police have simply refused to apologise for what they think is doing their job well.

“We make absolutely no apology whatsoever for the officer’s actions, which have prevented this vehicle becoming a target for thieves. We need people to take responsibility for their own property and take any valuables with them when they park up. We hope Morris’s story will serve as a reminder,” said Chief Inspector of Yorkshire Police, Elizabeth Belton. (ANI)
