LONDON - A poll has revealed the predominance of a racist attitude amongst the French with one in every seven Frenchmen admitting to having prejudicial views regarding immigrants, homosexuals, Blacks, Arabs and Jews.

Racial stereotyping was common with 30 percent of the people saying that they agree with the idea of Jews’ mainstay being finance and media.

Twenty-eight percent said Arabs were more likely to commit crimes than other ethnicities.

The poll was conducted by the BVA Institute for two anti-discrimination groups, the Daily Telegraph reports.

A significant minority of French, 15 percent, admit to being “rather or a bit racist”, up one per cent on the previous study. Amongst those who weren’t, most said that they would not react if they heard racist language.

Almost half of the respondents, 49 percent, thought that immigrants are better able to exploit the social welfare system than are the native French, and 12 percent said homosexuals were more obsessed by sex than others.

Meanwhile 28 per cent said they regarded Blacks as physically more powerful than other groups. (ANI)
