Unusual spring heat drives record high temperatures in New England

Springtime temps hit record highs in New England
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — New England sizzled Wednesday with record temperatures as the region experienced unusual springtime heat.
The National Weather Service said the mercury hit 95 degrees in the Providence area, breaking the record 91 degrees set May 26, 1965. A temperature of 98 degrees was recorded in the Hartford, Conn., area, breaking the record 94 degrees for the same date in 1965.
In Worcester, Mass., the temperature rose to 93 degrees, eclipsing the old record of 90 degrees May 26, 1932. Burlington, Vt., recorded a high of 91 degrees Tuesday, tying a record for that date in 1946. In Montpelier, Vt., the temperature reached 87 Wednesday, breaking the record 85 degrees set May 26, 1978.
Forecasters say cooler temperatures are expected for the rest of the week.
