LONDON - Three important works by LS Lowry were sold for more than 1 million pounds when they went under the hammer in Sotheby’s sale of 20th century British art in London.

The paintings, showing humanity “in all its moods”, belonged to private collections and had never been auctioned or sold before.

His painting The Street Brawl sold for 657,250 pounds, Street Scene with Mill fetched 397,250 pounds, and Man Walking sold for 145,250 pounds - all either above or within their expected amounts of sale.

Man Walking shows a lone figure standing in the middle of a winding road, bordered on each side with high brick walls, with industrial buildings looming behind.

Another painting, titled A Protest March, had an estimate of 300,00 pounds to 500,000, but did not sell, The Telegraph reported Sotheby’s as saying. (ANI)
