AP Gramling Awards honor NYC photographer, Illinois statehouse reporter and 7 others

Photographer among 9 AP Gramling Award winners

NEW YORK — New York-based photographer Julie Jacobson is among nine Associated Press staff members selected as winners of the 2010 Oliver S. Gramling Awards for excellence.

Jacobson and Illinois statehouse reporter John O’Connor won the two $10,000 Gramling Journalism Awards.

Jacobson was singled out for her work in Afghanistan and for embracing new technology. O’Connor was honored for consistently breaking news and source building.

Two $10,000 Achievement Awards, two $3,000 Spirit Awards and three $3,000 Scholarship Awards also were awarded.

A committee of AP managers selected the winners. The awards are given annually for work and initiatives that contribute significantly to the news report and to overall AP operations.

The AP is the world’s largest source of independent news and information.
