Contractor to MGM: Drop subcontractors from spat

LAS VEGAS — The chief executive of general contractor Tutor Perini Corp. says he welcomes a court fight with casino giant MGM Mirage over $490 million in construction bills for the CityCenter complex on the Las Vegas Strip.

But Ron Tutor said Friday that MGM Mirage should pay the subcontractors caught in the middle of the dispute so they don’t go out of business.

Tutor’s remarks came after he and other executives met with Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons for about an hour to talk about the disputed bill.

The battle between Perini Building Co. and MGM Mirage has sparked a civil lawsuit and counterclaim, with MGM Mirage accusing the builder of poor work on the $8.5 billion project.

Gibbons says he hopes to bring the companies together to resolve the matter outside of court.
