GERMAN BAN: Germany said it would ban certain types of trades where investors can make a bet on a stock or investment they don’t own.
PLATINUM, PALLADIUM PLUMMET: The pair of metals both sank more than 5 percent as some investors had to raise cash and exit the kinds of bearish trades that were subject to the new curbs in Europe.
POWER OUTAGE: Energy prices also fell because of ongoing worries about a slowdown in global demand. Benchmark crude hit an eight-month low.
