Report of ‘rifles’ at school; 9 youths detained
GRAHAM, Wash. — Teenagers carrying realistic-looking pellet rifles caused a scare Friday afternoon at a Graham, Wash., elementary school.
Pierce County sheriff’s deputies responding to a 911 call from a teacher detained nine youths and recovered at last seven of the Airsoft rifles. No one was injured. It wasn’t immediately clear what the young people were doing.
The sheriff’s department says it received numerous calls about armed teens on the grounds of Graham Elementary School about 4 p.m. Classes were over for the day but a few teachers and students were still on campus for after-school programs.
The sheriff’s office said the teens were being booked for investigation of possessing dangerous weapons on school grounds.
