Second Miliband vies to lead UK Labour Party

LONDON — The fight for the leadership of Britain’s Labour Party appears — so far — to be a family affair.

Former cabinet minister Ed Miliband said Saturday he intends to run for the position vacated by former Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Currently, the only other candidate is his older brother, David, but at least three other people are expected to declare.

Ed Miliband said the leadership campaign “should be a fraternal contest, and not just in terms of myself and David, but all the candidates.”

A former foreign secretary, David Miliband has said blood always trumps politics, and that neither brother “would do anything to compromise the family.”

No ballot has been fixed yet, but the result is expected to be announced at the party’s annual convention in September.
