Five militants killed in Manipur encounter

IMPHAL - At least five militants were killed in a fierce encounter with Assam Rifles personnel in Manipur’s Chandel District early hours on Saturday.

.The gunfight between the militants suspected to be of the rebel armed outfit, Pakan Army (United Liberation Army) and the paramilitary troopers began at around 2 am near Deru Khunou village in the district.

Reportedly, the troopers of the 21 Assam Rifles launched a search operation at night after observing suspicion movement of heavily armed people in the nearby mountainous region.

The security forces also recovered two AK-56 assault rifles, three M-16 rifles, five magazines, 362 live rounds of M-16 rifles besides wireless sets and ammunition from the dead rebels. (ANI)
