NYPD: Mom may have tossed kid before river rescue
NEW YORK — New York City police say a woman may have thrown her toddler daughter in the Hudson River and then jumped in after her, and they’re contemplating attempted-murder charges against her.
Rescuers pulled the woman and the child from the chilly water Tuesday.
New York Police Department spokesman Paul Browne says investigators have witnesses who saw the woman throw her daughter in the water and then jump in. The pair were spotted by passers-by who came across an empty stroller on a pier.
Authorities say the 34-year-old woman and her 19-month-old daughter were taken to a Manhattan hospital in serious condition. Their identities haven’t been released.
The fire department rescued the woman, who was face-down in the water. Police rescued the child, who was face-up. Both were resuscitated.
