TEHRAN - The Iranian Navy has successfully test-fired an anti-submarine torpedo on the fifth day of its military exercises in the Persian Gulf, the official Press TV reported Sunday.

The navy is carrying out war games aimed at tracking and targeting hostile submarines, Iranian military spokesman Rear Admiral Qasem Rostamabadi said.

The torpedoes were fired from Iran’s homemade destroyer Jamaran.

Admiral Rostamabadi said Jamaran is due to be dispatched to the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean after the Persian Gulf drills.

The six-phase exercise, dubbed Velayat 89, will continue for three more days. Iran’s air and ground forces are also participating in the naval exercises.
