GAYA - The fear of Maoists looms so large in Bihar’s Gaya District that police officials locked themselves inside the police station of Dumariya even during daylight hours.

The Dumariya police station was attacked by Maoists in 2006 and is one of the most sensitive police stations in the state.

Ratan Lal Thakur, Station House Officer (SHO), Dumariya Police Station, said that they are always on guard for any suspicious person.

“This is very important in view of the safety of our officials. This is the most sensitive police station of Gaya district and is even believed to be one of the most sensitive police stations of Bihar. Our personnel are on guard 24×7 and check every person and vehicle that enters the police station. In 2006 March, the Maoists had attacked this police station,” said Thakur.

Officials at this police station complain that they lack basic facilities.

“There is not enough security for us but still we follow the orders of the government,” said Rambabu Singh, a police official.

The Maoists claim they are crusading for the poor, marginal farmers, and landless labourers.

They have spread into the rural pockets of 20 of India’s 28 states. (ANI)
