Biden, NATO chief discuss Afghanistan, security
BRUSSELS — U.S. Vice President Joe Biden is calling for Russia to be more closely integrated into Europe’s security architecture, saying security on the continent has become “indivisible.”
In an op-ed published Thursday in the International Herald Tribune, Biden emphasized that Washington will “decide nothing about our European allies … without them.”
Biden opens a two-day visit to Brussels on Thursday. He met with NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen in the morning to discuss the war in Afghanistan, European security and relations with Russia.
Biden will also address the European Parliament, where many lawmakers have expressed skepticism about the Afghan mission, before flying on to Spain.
