April Auto Sales: General Motors

DETROIT — General Motors said that its April sales rose 6.4 percent, helped by big gains in its four remaining brands.

The automaker said that sales of Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles all were up 20 percent over April 2009. GM also was able to pull back a bit on its incentives since March, a sign that consumers may be willing to buy even without huge discounts.

TOP SELLER: Chevrolet Silverado. GM sold 29,618 during the month, up 12 percent from a year ago.

HOT MODELS: Chevrolet Equinox. April sales of 11,987 were a 190 percent improvement over last year.
