Islamabad, May.2 (ANI): Rubbishing former foreign minister Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri’s claims that the long pending Kashmir issue is near a solution during his reign, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazal Group) (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said Kasuri should table documents supporting his statement in parliament.

Interacting with media persons at Multan Airport, Rehman said if Kasuri has any evidence supporting his claim, he should come out with it.

He also denounced the Gilani government for taking dictations from the US, saying peace cannot be restored in the country unless Islamabad sever its ties with Washington and refuses to accept its dominance.

“The government is utilizing all it’s energy in war against terrorism. A common man is falling victim to the militancy while those who are actually responsible for the menace have not even suffered five percent of losses,” The News quoted Rehman, as saying.

Earlier, Kasuri had revealed that India and Pakistan, through back-channel diplomacy, had evolved an ‘interim’ agreement on the Kashmir issue, and that it was subject to review after 15 years.

Kasuri said that both New Delhi and Islamabad, while working out the agreement, had realised that in view of the long standing dispute over Kashmir, none of the solutions that they evolve would resolve the issue, so the ‘interim’ agreement was the best possible solution available under circumstances at that time.

“We were aware of the fact that there would be an overwhelming support for this agreement; but we also realised that there would be criticism from some sections in Kashmir, Pakistan and India,” Kasuri had said, on the sidelines of ‘Aman Ki Asha’ - a joint peace initiative by the Jang Group of Pakistan and The Times of India.
