2 men charged in NYC with supporting terror

NEW YORK — Two U.S. citizens have been charged in New York with conspiring to provide material support to al-Qaida.

An indictment unsealed Friday in Manhattan accuses Wesam El-Hanafi of traveling to Yemen to meet with members of al-Qaida in February 2008. Prosecutors say he later took an oath of allegiance to the terror group.

Federal prosecutors also accused Sabirhan Hasanoff of “performing assignments” for al-Qaida in New York.

The men are scheduled to make an initial court appearance in Virginia on Friday afternoon. The names of their lawyers are not available.
