Warner Bros, Imax reach 20 picture deal to 2013
LOS ANGELES — Movie studio Warner Bros. has agreed with wide-screen theater company Imax Corp. to show 20 movies in the format over the next three and a half years, including upcoming “Harry Potter” movies and “The Hobbit.”
The agreement, which begins with the Sept. 24 release of “Legends of the Guardian: The Owls of Ga’Hoole 3-D” runs through 2013. Future Batman and Superman movies are also included.
Since June 2003, Warner Bros., a unit of Time Warner Inc., has released 25 movies in the Imax format, including 10 in 3-D. The films have generated about $565 million in ticket sales from Imax theaters worldwide.
Imax shares rose 35 cents to $20.42 in afternoon trading Wednesday, while Time Warner shares rose 35 cents at $33.02.
