PARIS - An advertising campaign mocking the 5′5″ stature of French President Nicolas Sarkozy has caused uproar in the country.

The posters by Sixt, a car hire firm, urge customers to rent a small Citroen C3 hatchback, with the slogan, “Be like Madame Bruni, take a small French model”, The Telegraph reports.

The height difference between the 5ft 10 inches tall Carla Bruni-Sarkozy and her husband has long been a controversial issue in the country.

However, Jean-Philippe Doyen, Sixt President, said: “These advertisements are entitled to be funny and we need to inject a little fun into our business after such a difficult period experienced by many of our clients.”

Last year budget airline Ryanair was forced to pay out 50,000 pounds for an advertisement showing the President and his wife smiling together with the caption next to the former Italian supermodel model saying: “With Ryanair, my whole family can come to my wedding”. (ANI)
