Recalls this Week: Wood burning stoves, mattresses
NEW YORK — Among the recalled items this week are wood burning stoves from Norway and mattresses sold in Puerto Rico.
In the case of the stove, the problem is that the door may fall off. The Maine-based importer behind the recall says three incidents have been reported when only 200 stoves were sold. With the mattresses, which range from crib size all the way up to king size, the problem is that the materials used to make them don’t meet fire safety standards.
Here are the recalled items this week:

WOOD BURNING STOVES
DETAILS: The freestanding cast iron SCAN Andersen 10 wood burning stoves were manufactured in Norway and distributed by Jotul North America of Gorham, Maine. They have serial numbers from 7951 through 8267 printed on a label on the rear panel of the stove.
WHY: The stove’s door can dislodge and fall from its hinges.
INCIDENTS: Three incidents were reported to the firm including one report of a bruised foot. They were sold at dealers and distributors throughout the U.S. and Canada from March 2009 through February 2010.

MATTRESS SETS
DETAILS: The mattresses and mattresses with foundations were made by Tropical Bedding Mfg., of Caguas, Puerto Rico. The recall involves crib and bunkie mattresses and twin, full, queen and king mattress sets. The crib and bunkie mattresses do not have any labels. The other mattresses have “Classics,” ”Classics II,” ”Imagine,” ”Sweet Mysteries,” ”Treasures,” or “Comfort Dream” printed on a label located at the top of the foot of the mattress.
WHY: They do not meet the mandatory federal open flame standard and pose a fire hazard.
INCIDENTS: None reported. They were sold at City Mattress and furniture stores in Puerto Rico from July 2007 through September 2009 for between $30 and $135.

GIRL’S JACKETS
DETAILS: Shampoo brand jackets made of denim with a pink hood and sleeves, and Marci & Me brand sweater jackets in black or tan. The girl’s sized jackets were made in China and Bangladesh and have a tag at the neck with the brand name.
WHY: The hooded jackets have a drawstring through the hood and the sweater jackets have a drawstring through the waist that can pose an entanglement hazard to children.
INCIDENT: None reported. The jackets were sold at Burlington Coat Factory stores nationwide from September 2007 through September 2009 for between $11 and $13.
