Ketan Desai Arrested

NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.Com)- Ketan Desai, the president of the Medical Council of India (MCI) was taken into custody on Thursday after charges of corruption were levied against him. According to reports that have surfaced, Ketan Desai was arrested along with two other officials of MCI by the Central Bureau of Investigation late last night.

Harsh Bahal, a spokesperson of the Central Bureau of Investigation has reportedly revealed to the media that Ketan Desai and his associate Jitender Pal Singh were detained by the authorities after it was alleged that they accepted bribe to the tune of Rs. 2 crore in order to grant recognition to a medical college in Punjab. It has been reported that the CBI sprung into action after it received a complaint in this regard and laid a trap in order to catch the culprits red-handed. Apart from conducting extensive searches in his New Delhi office, the CBI is said to have carried out raids in the states of Punjab, Gujarat with the aim of tracing Ketan Desai’s other accomplices as well as getting an idea about his total assets.

In the meanwhile, police authorities have also divulged that an arrest has also been made in Punjab where one of the MCI president’s accomplice Dr. Kanwaljit Singh, associated with the Gyan Sagar Medical College, has been taken into custody. However, any further details about the case that has been registered against other MCI officials has not been available as yet. MCI president Ketan Desai has also not been available for any comments in this regard.
