Summary Box: Rates climb after stocks make small climb; Greek troubles boost demand for safety
By APWednesday, April 21, 2010
Summary Box: Interest rates rise as stocks stall
FALLING YIELDS: The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note maturing in February 2020 fell to 3.74 percent from 3.80 percent.
WEAK COMPETITION: Modest moves in the stock market and a sense that a retreat in stocks is overdue offered little competition for Treasurys.
GREECE CONCERNS: Investors had more questions after Greece’s borrowing costs rose to record levels. There is unease that the country could default on its debt and trigger losses in other markets.
