Salesforce.com to buy Jigsaw for $142 million
SAN FRANCISCO — Salesforce.com Inc. said Wednesday it has agreed to pay $142 million for Jigsaw Data Corp., a company that provides a Wikipedia-like directory of company information and business contacts.
Salesforce.com, which markets software to help companies manage customer relations, said it will pay cash for the privately held company, which is based in San Mateo, Calif.
Jigsaw’s service works by offering companies and professionals memberships in return for their contact information and title. Members get access to the information provided by other members and can earn points by helping to maintain the database. Points can be turned in for access to additional information.
Salesforce.com shares fell 33 cents to $84.15in afternoon trading.
