Militants using FATA terror sanctuaries to target US, NATO in Afghanistan: Holbrooke

ISLAMABAD - President Barack Obama’s Special Envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke has said that militants are still using the terror sanctuaries based Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) to carry out strikes against US and NATO forces stationed in Afghanistan.

Talking to media persons here, Holbrooke pointed out that the US-Pakistan relationship has improved considerably over the last 15 months, but also highlighted that the insurgency facing Pakistan was “very dangerous both to them and to the United States,”

He said Islamabad needs support in this tumultuous time, and assured that Washington would continue to work with it to resolve the impending crisis.

Holbrooke said: “Pakistan needs our support to resolve huge economic, energy and water problems … and the US is working with the Pakistani government to meet those pressing needs.”

He said the 7.5 billion dollars aid package authorized by the Congress has been funded, and the money would soon start flowing to Pakistan, The Dawn reports. (ANI)
