US Mint unveils quarter featuring Hot Springs National Park; 1st in series of new quarters

Hot Springs National Park featured on new quarter

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. — The U.S. Mint has unveiled a commemorative quarter recognizing Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas.

Hot Springs National Park is the first in a series of 56 quarters being issued to honor national parks and sites. They’re being released in the order in which the parks and sites were put under the care of the federal government.

Hundreds lined up to pay $10 for a roll of the quarters on Tuesday at an event in Hot Springs. One free quarter was given to school children who attended.

Hot Springs was the first land set aside by the federal government when it was established as a reservation in 1832.

The tails side of the 25 cent piece has an image of a fountain in front of the ornate entrance to the park’s office on Bathhouse Row.
