Costa Rica leader calls for Honduras return to OAS

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras — The president-elect of Costa Rica says Honduras should be allowed to return to the Organization of American States as quickly as possible.

Laura Chinchilla, who takes offices next month, says her Central American country is willing to lobby more intensely on the issue.

Honduran President Porfirio Lobo has also restarted integration talks with neighboring Nicaragua, which strongly supported former President Manuel Zelaya after he was ousted in a 2009 coup.

Honduras was suspended from the OAS following the coup.

Chinchilla met Monday with Lobo, who was elected in November to replace Zelaya and took office in January.
