Israeli writer defends his whistleblower articles
JERUSALEM — An Israeli journalist who has fled to London to avoid questioning by authorities in his country is defending his publication of secret army documents that led to espionage charges against a former soldier.
Uri Blau, an investigative reporter for the Haaretz daily, says his life has become like a “spy movie.”
He is wanted for questioning in the case of Anat Kamm, who is accused of leaking thousands of military documents to him. Kamm is under house arrest.
In an article published in Haaretz on Friday, Blau says he is being persecuted for reporting information that was “not convenient for the establishment.”
Blau used the leaked documents to expose allegations the army was killing Palestinian militants despite a court order to arrest them if possible.
