Bullets from ‘99 attack removed from LA man’s head

LOS ANGELES — A Los Angeles man has had two bullets removed from his head a decade after an apparent gang shooting cut short his dreams of becoming a police officer.

Jorge Acevedo, a volunteer with the Glendale Police Department, said Friday he hopes the bullets will help find the people who attacked him.

The 39-year-old man was shot several times and partially paralyzed when attackers opened fire on his car in a 1999 Christmas Day attack.

One bullet was left in his body at the time because it was near his brain and too dangerous to remove. But it migrated and was protruding from his skull when a neurosurgeon removed it last week.

Acevedo says the surgeon had a surprise when he found a second bullet of a different caliber.
