ISLAMABAD - Pakistan’s federal shariat court (FSC) has issued notices to both federal and provincial governments over ‘Un-Islamic’ punishments mentioned under the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC)

Taking a sou-motu notice of the issue, the FSC has constituted a three-member bench and asked the concerned authorities to file their response by April 14.

According to sources, the bench would get the opinion of Islamic jurists and scholars, besides seeking assistance from senior lawyers as ‘amicus curiae’ to examine the PPC in light of Islamic njunctions.

Over 50 clauses of the PPC are considered to be discriminatory and against Islamic injunctions, which would be reviewed by the shariat court, The Daily Times reports. (ANI)
