Lebanon reports clash at Palestinian base in east

BEIRUT — Lebanese security officials say heavy clashes have erupted in a Palestinian military camp in a remote eastern part of the country as a result of infighting among Palestinian factions.

A spokesman for a Palestinian faction that is based at the camp, Anwar Raja, says one person has been killed. Lebanese officials could not confirm that.

The officials say machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades were being used in the fighting on Thursday. The camp is close to the village of Qusaya near the Syrian border.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity, in line with regulations.

The camp is run by the Syrian-backed Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command.

Raja claimed the clash erupted when Lebanese police tried to storm the base.
