APNewsBreak: Bloomberg sends letter to donors
NEW YORK — New Yorkers who give money to political campaigns all over the country will be getting a letter from Mayor Michael Bloomberg suggesting how he wants them to spend their donations.
Every spring, Bloomberg gathers wealthy donors and tells them the causes he wants them to consider before supporting anyone running for office.
This year, the mayor and his partners have expanded the effort. Bloomberg sent letters to 50,000 New Yorkers listing his legislative priorities. He also gave them a card to keep in their wallets as a reminder.
This year’s issues include lifting the state cap on charter schools and urging Congress to pass immigration reform and close the so-called “gun show loophole” by requiring background checks on handgun purchases at gun shows.
