6 hurt as ATV plunges off cliff in Massachusetts
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. — Authorities say an all-terrain vehicle plunged over a cliff in the middle of the night in a western Massachusetts park, injuring six people.
South Hadley District Fire Chief David Keefe says some victims may have tumbled as much as 700 feet when the ATV went over the cliff in Skinner State Park at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Keefe says he doesn’t know how anyone survived.
He says it took 55 rescuers about four hours to rescue the victims.
The four most seriously injured were taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Two were taken to Holyoke Medical Center. Names were not immediately released, but all the victims are between 20 and 35 years old.
Four of the victims had critical injuries, though all are expected to recover.
