Unemployment little changed in Michigan regions
LANSING, Mich. — New state figures say seasonally unadjusted unemployment rates for February are little changed in Michigan’s 17 major labor markets.
The changes in the figures the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Development released Thursday are generally too small to indicate a real change in the job picture.
The lowest rate was 8.9 percent in the Ann Arbor region. The highest was 19.9 percent in the northeastern Lower Peninsula.
Michigan’s overall unadjusted unemployment rate was 14.6 percent in February, little changed from January’s 14.9 percent but up from 12.9 percent in February 2009.
When adjusted for normal seasonal changes, Michigan’s jobless rate stood at a national high of 14.1 percent in February, up from 12 percent a year earlier.
